Valedictorian/Salutatorian Policy

CIMS takes great pride in recognizing the academic achievements of the top-ranked students in each graduating class.

Applicability of Policy

This policy applies to the graduating Classes of 2027, 2028, and 2029. Beginning with the graduating Class of 2030 and all subsequent classes, the policy includes the additional provisions outlined below regarding repeat dual enrollment coursework.

 

The honor of Valedictorian shall be awarded to the graduating senior who has earned the highest cumulative weighted grade point average (GPA) among all members of the class. The honor of Salutatorian shall be awarded to the graduating senior who has earned the second-highest cumulative weighted GPA in the class.  The Valedictorian and Salutatorian must have been enrolled at CIMS for a minimum of their 10th, 11th, and 12th grade years.

 

Cumulative weighted GPA shall be calculated in accordance with the school’s established grading and weighting policies. The GPA used to determine these honors will include the following grading periods:

 

Amendment for Class of 2030 and Beyond

For the graduating Class of 2030 and all subsequent classes, dual enrollment college courses will be factored into a student’s GPA only once. If a student repeats the same dual enrollment course, only the highest grade received in the course will be calculated into the total GPA; all other grades received for that course will not be included in the overall GPA calculation.
