CIMS Mock Trial Club begins
Posted on 11/09/2018
The CIMS Mock Trial Club is in full swing, with this year’s case covering The People v. Klein. In this case, pre-trial attorneys must argue whether or not statements made by the defendant are protected speech under the First Amendment.  In The People v. Klein the defendant is charged with two counts -- making a criminal threat and sending a false report of an emergency to police via social media.  Participants must portray attorneys, witnesses, clerk and bailiff and present an entire bench trial, taking turns acting as the Defense and the Prosecution.  Students are scored both on their individual performances and as a team. Each team will compete in four rounds of competition and perform in a real courtroom before a sitting judge and attorney scorers.
