Physical Education

PE

Students must earn a total of 20 units of physical education credit for graduation. All students must earn 10 units in Beginning PE. Athletic classes are for 10th-12th graders only who meet the prerequisite. 9th graders may take an athletic class only if they remain in their beginning PE class and have the letter of approval signed by their parents stating that the athletic class is to take the place of their elective class and if the students meet the prerequisite.


Physical Education (7th – 8th Grade)

Course Length: One Year

Students will have a safe environment, both physically and emotionally. The student, as well as the teacher, will monitor individual improvement and progress. There will be an emphasis on cooperation and the development of social skills. Students will be exposed to various sports, games, activities and skills. The course will study nutrition and other fitness related topics. Grades will be based on performance/participation and effort as dictated by the content standards and lessons will be designed to maximize student success and enjoyment. The program will be developmentally progressive from grade 7th and 8th grade. The program will instill a knowledge of, and appreciation for, physical fitness, which will last a lifetime.

Beginning PE

This course is designed to offer student the opportunity to learn advanced skills, knowledge, terminology, and conditioning associated with Individual and Dual Activities that include, but are not limited to: Tennis, Badminton, Track and Field, Golf, Aquatics, Dance/Rhythms, and Fitness/ Conditioning to prepare students for the State Fitness Testing. (Activities depend upon the availability of facilities, equipment, and staffing).

Advanced PE

This course is designed to offer student the opportunity to learn advanced skills, knowledge, terminology and conditioning associated with Competitive Team Activities that include, but not limited to, Football, Soccer, Basketball, Hockey, Ultimate Frisbee, Volleyball, Softball and Water Polo. (Activities depend upon the availability of facilities, equipment, and staffing).

This is an Inter Scholastic Sports Development Class. Student Athletes will be introduced and taught the sport specific skills, strategies, techniques, rules, conditioning and sportsmanship needed to compete in Inter Scholastic Sports.

NOTE: This course is pending based on the employment of an on-campus certificated coach.
