AWARDS
2018 US NEWS & WORLD REPORT GOLD MEDAL SCHOOL:
Cobalt Institute of Math & Science was awarded a GOLD MEDAL ranking in the 2018 US News & World Report Best High Schools list. CIMS was ranked No. 83 in California and No. 486 in the nation. The only other school that ranked in the Victor Valley Union High School District was University Preparatory, who ranked 106 in California and 620 in the nation. UP received a silver medal. The California rankings included 700 schools in the state. Of those schools, only 85 (included CIMS) earned a gold medal, 439 earned a silver medal and 174 earned a bronze medal.
PROJECT LEAD THE WAY DISTINGUISHED GATEWAY SCHOOL:
Cobalt Institute of Math & Science was recognized in March 2018 as a Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Gateway Distinguished School! CIMS is one of just 110 schools across the U.S. to receive this gateway honor. PLTW is a nonprofit organization that serves millions of K-12 students and teachers in over 10,500 schools across the U.S. These programs inspire and engage students in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), and prepare them with the knowledge and skills they’ll need to succeed in any career path they choose.
ERP HONOR ROLL SCHOOL:
Cobalt Institute of Math & Science was recognized in May 2018 as an Educational Results Partnership (ERP) Honor Roll School for our high achievement and student success! The Honor Roll program, sponsored by the Campaign for Business and Education Excellence (CBEE), is part of a national effort to identify higher-performing schools and districts that are improving student outcomes. CIMS is one of 1,798 public schools in California to be recognized. The ERP Honor Roll utilizes public school student achievement data to identify successful schools and districts. Our school stands above others in the state because of our demonstrated ability to get students to grade level achievement and beyond. Schools that receive the ERP Honor Roll distinction have demonstrated consistent high levels of student academic achievement, improvement in achievement levels over time, and a reduction in achievement gaps among student populations.

CIMS strives to ensure that all students achieve the highest standards of academic excellence. CIMS is committed to creating an environment that is conducive to learning which will enable our students to develop to their fullest potential. The CIMS team will provide an atmosphere of positive reinforcement, respect, and accountability to ensure student success.
All students should have an interest in a career or college in the field of engineering, biomedical sciences and/or technology and meet the following criteria for admissions:
Academic Requirements
1.
All students must maintain a minimum of a 2.0 GPA each Quarter/Semester or they will be placed on academic probation.
2.
Students are allowed only one academic probationary period during their enrollment at CIMS. If a student fails to meet the academic criteria on subsequent Quarter/Semester grade reports, he/she will be returned to their home school.

In order to allow students to focus on academics during the probationary period, students that are placed on academic probation will be restricted from participating in ALL extracurricular activities (including ASB dances, field trips, sports, incentive activities etc.)
4.
Students will be returned to their home school at any Semester, including the first, if they have three or more F’s in any subject areas on a Semester Report Card.
Uniform Requirements
CIMS is a uniform school. All students are required to be in full uniform during school hours and while participating in the ASES Program.
Consequences for dress code violations may include detention, Saturday School, suspension and/or possible release from CIMS for repeat violators.

Students with excessive absences and/or tardies may receive disciplinary action including academic recovery time, detention, Saturday School, suspension, referral to the School Attendance Review Board and/or release from CIMS.
