Cobalt Institute of Math and Science

A new school year is always an exciting time for all. It presents opportunities for various beginnings – new classes, new faces, sometimes new courses, and often new materials. The next years few are a time for growth, challenge and adventure. Your child’s time at Cobalt Institute of Math and Science (CIMS) will be exciting and filled with many new opportunities.

CIMS has a vision that states, “All Students Can Learn.” Our ultimate mission is to create a self-reliant community of learners who exceed standards through a diverse and rigorous curriculum. We will place students at the forefront of an ever changing society by interlocking systems of school, family, and community. An emphasis will be placed on academic excellence through integrated technology, quality instruction, career exploration and personal social development.

First and foremost we believe school should be a safe and orderly place. We also believe every child can learn and that every child has the right to learn. We believe children will rise to the level of expectation of their instructors and that every child will experience many opportunities and challenges. Students at CIMS will experience learning at the highest levels from a well trained, prepared and excited staff of teachers; integrating curriculum that supports science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) courses through our partnership with Cal Poly. We believe in educating the whole child in that children must develop socially and emotionally as well as academically. We also believe school should be a rewarding memorable experience and will partner with all stakeholders to support students in reaching their fullest potential.

The administration, faculty, and staff at CIMS believe this is a school where adults and students come to succeed. We foster a community based on kindness, cooperation, educational challenge, inclusion, and creativity. We strive to build a strong school, student, family, and community relationships that will allow students to become active and contributing young citizens.

Finally, on behalf of CIMS’s staff and administration we encourage all students and parents to become involved in our school. This handbook contains information that is important and useful. I urge you to read it thoroughly and thoughtfully. Please take time to review this handbook with your child(ren). Review the sections regarding attendance, code of conduct, and the uniform dress code closely. We would like parents/guardians to help us by encouraging your child to do their very best. Make sure your child is attending school daily in order to get a quality education and encourage them to turn in all homework. There are many academic opportunities available as well as extra-curricular opportunities such as band, chorus, and athletics. We also encourage all parents to become a member of our School Site Council, PTSA, and other parent committees or advisories and we welcome anyone who is willing to volunteer at CIMS in any capacity.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
